Located in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve in the far North of South Africa this lodge is well worth a visit. Situated on a hilltop the views are commanding and from the balcony one can while away an afternoon and have most of the Big 5 wander past as you gaze to the horizon. Almost entirely constructed of wood the lodge has a very warm & welcoming atmosphere. Each tent is quite private with an adjoining bathroom and outside shower between the room and the bathroom/toilet. The main area provides the focal point for all activities as well as dividing the rooms up. There are only 8 tents - maximum 16 guests (no children allowed) - with 4 tents to the left of the main area as one faces North and 4 to the right. Tents 1 through 4 are close to the main area as are 4, 5 & 6 while tents 7 & 8 are farther with tent 8 being quite a distance. Tent 2 is the closest to the main area for those guests with impaired mobility. Note: no matter where your room is - there are lots of stairs! There is a beautiful rimflow swimming pool which is extremely welcome in the warm summer months. From a wildlife perspective game viewing is nothing short of excellent! The only animal guides struggle with is Lion as there is no dominant pride in the area. For Leopard, Rhino, Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo there is more that one can shake a stick at! Good sightings of Wild Dog too.
There is a small waterhole below room 1 which is kept filled by the management and by far the best room in the house in my opinion.
There is a boma area for some dinners and management do arrange bush dinners on every Thursday of the week.
